A number of you will know me fairly well through my Facebook and Instagram accounts. No doubt many of us have chatted at length on occasion over the years. But for the newbies, it’s a necessary evil to bore absolutely everyone by telling you a bit about myself and what I’m doing here.
Let’s start with the basics. I’m Clara. Pronounced Clare-ra. Yep, causes no end of confusion and corrections. Well, two corrections. That’s the British thing to do. After which I resign myself to being called Clare forevermore. I am a wife, mother and now proudly call myself a small business owner.
I began Homespun Heath 8 years ago, while at home raising my two little boys. The flexibility of juggling my toddlers and my expanding “hobby” soon confirmed my desire to continue nurturing my small business. My boys are toddlers no more (secondary school incoming! *sobs*) so I’ve done just that!
In days of old, Facebook was a hugely popular means for a handmade seller. I grew a wonderfully loyal and supportive community who rather liked my handmade items. Each year orders would swell and my following slowly increase. Eventually I decided to dabble in the world of Instagram too.
Instagram is a whole new game to play, and the rules frequently change. I do enjoy attempting to figure out the means to remain being seen, and continuing to produce some sort of "content" my audience might like. Essentially it’s all a bit of nonsense and something to play around with, while I can safely show up as myself and not scare too many people away!
This year, in an attempt to be all business like and expand my customer base, I tweaked my Instagram posts ever so slightly. The hope was to attract the sort of person who might like a bit of Homespun Heath’s offerings and the plan being to extend my range to keep my original following interested too. Low and behold, it only went and bloody worked! I thought it was a fluke at first, but several posts in quick succession picked up and went nuts. Thousands of people flocked to my social media accounts in a very short space of time. Stock was flying out faster than I could replenish. I am so hugely proud to see my handmade items remain in high demand ever since.
My Homespunh Heath life has changed, dramatically. I have steadily seen my “hobby” grow. But now, you have given me a great big shove into creating a fully fledged small business I am hugely proud of.
So here we are! A new approach to actual business. Planning. Partnerships. Procurement.... I can’t think of any other P words to sound like I know what I’m talking about. But that’s the thing - less winging it, more knowing it, is now required!
My new website has officially launched. I now have ALL the stats and am slowly implementing automations to help me provide a better service. There is also another Instagram account for the more personal and homely goodness you all love.
This blog will be a place where my Instagram accounts come together. Where I can share with you a round up of behind the scenes life, my love of all things seasonal and baking, and of course any new collections, products and offers you might enjoy. It will be a whole new experience for us both, but given the longevity of our online friendship, I’m pretty sure I know you well enough to know you’re going to love it!
If you’ve made it this far, thank you. Thank you for taking the time to read this lengthy introduction. Thank you for visiting my new website. Thank you for supporting my small business. Thank you for showing up for me, Clara. The real life person you make smile every single day. I wouldn’t be doing this without you.
